Abstract |
The paper represents a portrait of the talented authoress Sofia Khvoshinskaya who under the pseudonym Iv. Vesenjev worked in the middle of the XIX century, though her works were not known by contemporary readers as well as by literature scholars of our times. The purpose of the paper is to introduce her name and her works in the history of literature and literature. The main points of the life of Khvoshinskaya are reconstructed basing on the archive materials and published resources. Addressing the epistolary resources and literary texts allowed for conveying authoress’ aesthetic position and her ethical and social ideals. The paper examines the most important works of Khvoshinskaya who was attracted towards essays describing manners and customs and novels. Her style is characterized by laconicalness, irony, analytical passages and clarity of the authoress position. |
