Abstract

The study focuses on the evolution of theatrical arts in Crimea of the 19th – early 20th centuries. The authors are among the first in the history of national culture to conduct a historical and cultural analysis of the formation of theatrical life in the Crimea, a region with centuries-old cultural and multinational historical traditions. While working on the publication, authors relied on descriptive, problematical and chronological methods of scientific research. Using archival documents and information from periodicals, the authors managed to provide a brief overview of the formation of theatrical arts in Russia during the 17–18 centuries, as well as to analyze the theatrical life in Crimea up to the beginning of the twentieth century. The study emphasizes that a number of bourgeois-democratic reforms carried out in Russia during the 60-s. of the 19th c. proved to be a positive influence on the development of theatrical art in the Crimea, turning it out of the elite art into the favorite form of leisure for most of the population of the then Crimea. The historical and cultural analysis conducted in terms of the study allowed to come to the conclusion that during the 19 – early 20 centuries Crimea witnessed an active development of theatrical art. As a result it became an integral part of the cultural life of peoples living on the Peninsula.
