Abstract

The purpose of the article is to show main examples of the use of tapestry (carpets) in public spaces. Modification of this type of art makes it possible to coordinate expressive elements of the interior, completing it with harmonic perfection. Basing on the conducted research, the authors came to a conclusion on the artistic productivity of the interaction of tapestry with the subject-spatial environment in modern interiors. The study looks at artistic textiles as a special artistic element that forms the public interior. It has introduced outstanding works of hand weaving of different Russian masters: namely tapestry-assemblage by N. Muradova; the use of typographical fine tools in textiles: I. Kolesnikov`s works in the field of “lettrism”. The trend of using photodetectors and photographic images is inherent in the works of the Moscow creative Duo Marina and Anna Necheporuk. Petersburg artists Alexander I. Larionov and V. A. Larionova created tapestry curtain for the Soviet Consulate in Barentsburg on Spitsbergen. Tapestry by S. Gavin embodies the quality of high style, looking at the past, combined with a completely modern stylistic. Begijanov`s works came to suit modern interiors and the interiors of old buildings. The early works by A. Madekin were influenced by avant-garde artists, in particular Malevich. V. D. Uvarov`s work “Space” managed to overthrow traditional belief that tapestry is unable to display purely illusory motifs. The introduction of tapestry into public interiors has proved to be a major change in the development of textile art.
