Abstract

The analytical review presents the materials of reports and speeches of the international scientific conference “Popular Russia: the plenty of languages, dialects, cultures” (Volgograd, April 23–25, 2019). Multiple sections discussed current issues of cultural linguistics, among which listeners` great interest was aroused by issues such as: Russian language in synchrony and diachrony and its relationship with national traditions; tolerance of languages and cultures; Slavic unity and Russian language; local history in schools and universities; social environment and language; popular speech in a literary text, etc. Special attention is paid to the issues of Slavic ethnolinguistics. The paper notes that this issue is relevant in a polylingual society and affects a range of acute modern problems that need to be addressed. Among them are the study and lexicographical description of the dialects of Slavia, study of languages of the minority peoples of Russia, the issues of cultural identity and ethno-linguistic traditions, folk onomastics, national stereotypes, etc. As the author points out mentioned theses require a wider public discussion not only among academics and university teachers, but also in the media and public authorities. The paper concludes by stressing that the Slavic ethnolinguistics under the new conditions of globalization is designed to solve complex communication problems and contribute to the prevention of ethnic conflicts.
