Abstract

The concept of tradition requires scientific justification and a systematic approach. Typology of miracle`s image in the Russian literary tradition is the main topic of this research. The study and systematization of literary images aims to contribute to the understanding of perceptions and value aspects of culture. The theme of the Christian holiday can be traced in the texts of various genres and styles. The analysis of prosaic and poetic works of Russian writers came to be the basis for comparison and differentiation of several stable invariants characteristic of prose and lyricism. Through the process of analysis of prosaic and poetic texts the author highlights the unity of motives of miracle and gift and the perception of change as a miracle. The plots of Easter prosaic works are similar to the Christmas ones and are based on a change in one`s heart and destiny. One can see the influence of European literature in basic prosaic plots. Easter Russian lyric poetry is original and distinctive and contains direct references to liturgical texts. Thus the paper reveals two leading trends of understanding in prose and lyrics of the Christian holiday in the Russian literary tradition through the motive of the miracle: a change in the individual fate and a holistic renewal of life. The proposed system allows to interlink genre, direction, motif, imagery system and world view, and may also serve as an aspect of study of the tradition of secular Christian literature.
