Abstract

The paper examines the concept as a worldview category, a cognitive matrix and a genre factor which allows determining the place of the author's concept in the system of receptive expectations, the comic/dramatic dichotomy, and contributes to the analysis of Chekhov's narrative discourse, developing classification of works based on the subject motif. Hence the definition of such notions as information and interpretation fields of the concept. Concept rank is analyzed from the standpoint of greeting idioms and familiar atmosphere. Information field of the concept is explored in terms of nicknames, psychology of gesture. Field of interpretation is explored in the context of spectacular symbolism, sound symbolism, cultural allegiance. As the paper reveals the peculiarity of the field of interpretation lies in the menippea nature of the stories, provocative receptive expectations, outlining the boundary between familiar and profane. Ideological essence of the concept rank is implemented in parody and axiological connotations. Cognitive nature of the concept of rank lies in the connection of the sensory image, information content, field of interpretation. The authors consider the mask as one of the derivatives of the concept rank. Informational field is analyzed in terms of the hero's cognitive strategy, everyday speech phraseology, culture of laughter`s formulaic poetics, designators. The paper shows specifics of the information and interpretation fields of the concept from the standpoint of author's remarks and their functions of caricature attributes, spectacle and sound symbolism, onomatopoeia, carnivalization, and oxymoron. The results of the analysis allowed us to establish the unity of the genre of Chekhov's story as an allegory of fancy, an anecdote and a drama of self-deprecation.
