| Abstract: |
The paper makes an attempt to reconstruct the historical events which led to the foundation of the Holy Trinity Monastery of Boldino near the field of Vedroscha battle (1500) on the territory of Dorogobuzh district of Smolensk region. The date of birth of the Monastery founder, Saint Gerasim of Boldino, was specified. The paper gives proof to the choice of time period when one of the variants of the first edition of the Life of the Saint was created. There is an assumption that the arrival of Saint Gerasim from Pereslavl-Zalessky (March 25, 1528) represents a long-awaited news that disagreement between Orthodox people living in Lithuania and in Moscow Russia came to an end. The paper makes a supposition about the main initiators of Saint Gerasim arrival to Dorogobuzh. It is suggested that the Holy Trinity Monastery of Boldino was founded to commemorate the birth of Joann Vasilievich, future tsar Ioann IV. |
