Abstract

The review analyzes a book about the language of Bulgarian cuisine, which came as a completion of the research work of the team of Bulgarian dialectologists to create a unique innovative product of a scientific and practical nature, an Interactive culinary map of the Bulgarian language territory. A comprehensive linguo-geographical study of everyday and festive, ritual culinary vocabulary was carried out throughout the Bulgarian linguistic territory, including historical diasporas. Analysis of the Bulgarian culinary vocabulary in the common Slavic context revealed the commonality of the Bulgarian and Slavic dialect names, which is reflected in the common Slavic roots of the names and in similar nomination models. The general Balkan context of the studied vocabulary revealed the presence of Turkish and Greek words, which dominate borrowings from the other languages. The authors of the Interactive Culinary Map have created a universal analytical and digital model for studying other similar types of vocabulary in different terminological areas of the language.
