Abstract

Roerich's Central Asian expedition was truly unique and large-scale. The route traveled by the expedition was complex and varied, including mountain passes at high altitudes and the territories of five different states. As the head of the expedition, Nicholas Roerich was assigned certain tasks related to the study and description of various aspects of the life of the countries under study. An overview of the social life, economic situation and political preferences of the population, as well as an analysis of the influence of various countries in Central Asia were all part of the work of the expedition. The expeditionary achievements of the Roerichs are extensive and deserve the attention of historians, ethnologists, linguists, and art historians. The results of the expedition are confirmed by the rich artistic and ethnographic heritage that was created, collected and processed by the Roerich family. Their expeditionary diary is of great interest for cross-cultural analysis, as well as the study of the features of the iconography of the paintings of N.K.R.
