Abstract: |
The article analyses new ideas of the Old Russian scribes concerning the term«besermene». The author comes to the conclusion that besides the meanings which had been observed earlier by some researchers [«besermene» as ‘Muslims’ and «besermene» as ‘Bulgarians from Kama’ (‘kamskie bulgari’)] Russian sources also used the term «besermene», describing Tatars. And retrospectively this meaning was used for the account of that historical period when the majority of Tatars had been pagans. The article allows to take a new view of the attitude of the Russian medieval society towards Mongol-Tatars. |
