Abstract: Country cottages were starting to play a greater role in the life of big cities in the XIX-XX centuries. Country summer settlements were simultaneously the place of the development of urbanization, as well as the popular form of summer vacation. The rest at the country holiday cottage formed a special type of leisure time, which today has been completely lost. It was characterized by a high level of socialization and culture of everyday life and recreation. It has been possible to reconstruct the most striking forms of cottage holidays typical for that time in Moscow province. It was done on the basis of research sources (primarily pre-revolutionary guidebooks and eyewit- nesses stories). Thanks to the «capital city of Moscow» (and some other reasons) coun- try cottage holidays were vividly represented, in particular, in the form of suburban theaters, festivals and sports. In conclusion, the analysis of the causes which resulted in the disappearance of country cottage holidays as a special form of recreation in the early XX century was done.
