Abstract: In the article the types, the forms and the stylistic features of the lamentations included into chronicle military narrations are considered. Lamentations in medieval Russian literature are the literary form, studied insufficiently. The question of their literary kind is not determined, specific examples of the genre are poorly learned. The purpose of this article is to consider the types, forms and style of the lamentations included in the chronicle military narrations of XI-XVI centuries as one of the most popular genres, and determine their literary genre. The Material of the work is composed by lamentations included in the most significant chronicle military narrations. On the basis of observations on them, three main forms are distinguished: the mention, the description of the content, and the introduction of the text of lamentation. The first two forms are typical to the lamentations of groups of characters, and the third appears in those cases when it’s necessary to picture the lamentations of a separate character, including the author. All forms of lamentations are emotional and this feature is reflected in their stylistic system including lexical repetitions, rhetorical and syntactic means, biblical quotes. These features indicate the lyrical nature of the considered genre.
