Filmography by Russian director Vasily Shukshin is the screen embodiment of the difficult spiritual way of the author.The film Kalina krasnaya (Red Snowball Tree) by Russian outstanding director Vasily Shukshin became not only his last work as a director, but it also stayed as his confessional word and spiritual testament. This film is not a simple psychological drama, but it’s an example of intuitive religious sense of the author and appearance of Russian Christianized consciousness. Due to spiritual aspirations of the author, the film story rises from everyday life level to ontological area. The article analyses and interprets this film as an art manifestation of New Testament parable about return of the prodigal son connecting both a realistic story and overrealistic semantics. The special attention is dedicated to changes of film’s literary base that took place during its audiovisual «translation» to cinematographic language. |
