Abstract: |
The article treats the term «mask» as the first person narrator (explicit «I») acting as the third person («other»), when the announced author of the text obviously can’t coincide with the real one. A person distinctly different from the real author may be in the role of explicit «I». The term «communicative pattern (model)» means a certain type of relation between a lyrical subject and the recipient, expressed lexically and grammatically. There are two dominant communicative patterns in the book «Romantic Flowers» and this fact confirms the thesis of Yu. I. Levin that each poet gravitates to the set of certain communicative models. But the opinion of this researcher that the author's mask is very unusual for the lyrics is not relevant to the poems by N. S. Gumilyov. In the early lyrical poetry by Gumilyov the first person can be considered not only in the meaning of «the other I» but also as «the generalized other we». The author’s mask can be named and thus actualized in the title and repeated in the text and can only be maintained by means of grammatical forms and (or) by communication of the world view and the realities corresponding to it. The change of the point of view (or «raising» of the mask), expressed including through the change of pronouns, can break the formal definition of the communicative structure of the poem. |
