Abstract: | The article contains an analysis of the category of taste as one of the metaphysical foundations and a necessary premise of aesthetic experience. The authors understand aesthetic experience as the experience that arises between the subject and the object (the recipient and the work of art), as a result the subject of the aesthetic perception acquires specific, non-verbalizable knowledge, is elevated over mundane reality, and ideally reaches the state of harmony with the universe. What heralds the advent of aesthetic experience is mainly spiritual joy or aesthetic pleasure in the course of its realization. Taste as an ability to judge the aesthetic value of an object is the main characteristic of the aesthetic subject. This category is examined both in its historical-aesthetic aspect and in its contemporary interpretation. The article shows that even today taste is the principal criterion of defining the artisticity, or the aesthetic value, of an artwork. The person who possesses no aesthetic (or, equally, artistic) taste does not experience the event of art. |
