Abstract: |
The theme of «new people» is one of the backbones of the national classical literature, art form and philosophical content. In its focus on the peasantry «new people» discover one of the most interesting of its manifestations. However, their view of the
peasantry has a historical nature — Russian literary philosophizing begins with an idea of the «new people», presented as an utopia of Russian world and peasant life, as a part of it. This theme has become one of the key ones after Turgenev’s «Notes of a Hunter» and novelistic prose, especially the novel «Virgin Soil». The idea is deeply studied by Leo Tolstoy and Nikolai Leskov, Ivan Goncharov, and Anton Chekhov. However, in the further development there is a departure from the idea of the state paternalism and inforcement of revolutionary rebellion, and appearance of a new idea: perception of people as a «material» for the era of revolutionary change, which would result in the emergence of the man «of the communist era». |
