Abstract

The article shows the contradictory face of Leonid Andreev, which is an unquestionable part of the culture of the Silver Age, who managed to embody in his work the features of literature and culture of the turn of the centuries, which were crucial in the history of Russian civilization. Being, in recognition of many of his contemporaries and his own recognition, the creator of "the most charming disharmony", he managed to capture in an amazing way his creative image in the Russian literature of the Silver Age. He became an integral part of it, offering us, readers, a new look at the mysterious era of the turn of the century, when the old esthetic values were falling into oblivion and new ones were born, the latter being thought over by the creative thinkers of the twentieth century.

Keywords

Leonid Andreev, the turn of the century, pre-revolutionary era.
