Abstract |
Prose of L. Petrushevskaya firmly fills its niche in contemporary literature, sharing the leading position with the works of A. Vampilov, Y. Trifonov, L. Ulitskaya, V. Pelevin. However, literary critics still experience difficulties in attributing the writer's style, referring her prose to naive realism, then to socio-naturalism or to prose of shock therapy, then to a new natural school. The article deals with the prose of L. Petrushevskaya, and more precisely the stories of her collection “Two Kingdoms”, in terms of their belonging to magic realism, the main constants of which are fully represented in the collection. The main difference between the stories of L. Petrushevskaya and the works of Latin American writers, who had developed the magic realism, lies in the nature of their protagonists. Active heroes of short stories of L. Petrushevskaya's fairy tales confront passive heroes of Latin American literatures, which eventually leads to the creation of a new artistic system of magical realism. |
