Abstract

150th birth anniversary of the outstanding Russian poet of the Silver age, poet-symbolist Balmont was celebrated in June 2017. The article presents the results of the scientific conference “Balmont`s space: worlds and people”, held in terms of anniversary of the poet in his homeland, the ancient town of Shuya. The conference focused on the fate of Russia and of humanity in the works of K. D. Balmont; natural and universal in the legacy of the poet; the life and work of K. D. Balmont in Russian and global historical and literary space; linguistic picture of the world in the work of the poet-symbolist; his aesthetics of verbal creativity; study and promotion of cultural heritage; and publishing projects connected with his name. Symbolic metaphysics, sacred cosmogony, heaven and earth, astro-poetic and existential geography, going before any human history represent only a few touches to the portrayal of the Balmont's Russia. The conference was held under the auspices of the Russian cultural Fund, National Fund for rights-holders support. The conference gathered scientists from Moscow, Voronezh, Ryazan, Novosibirsk, Ivanovo, Shuya. Descendants of the poet, carefully preserving and actively promoting poetic legacy of their great ancestor also attended the conference.
