Abstract

The paper examines the food culture of the Siberians in XIX – early XX centuries as a significant part of everyday culture. The author studies traditional food choices of the peoples living in Siberia, i.e. Russians, Khakas, Nenets, Dolgans, Kets, Nganasans, Evenks, Tuvinians basing on the rich factual material. The study displays characteristics of the food in terms of the influence of natural and climatic conditions, social and economic life arrangement, religious beliefs. The author comes to the conclusion that varied and rich daily diet of the Siberians has led to the idea of “Siberian health”, which makes it possible for different ethnic groups to survive in this region.
