Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the dynamics of the space perception from antiquity to the present days. The author emphasizes the fact that the ideas about space development and their implementation in architecture are directly related to the processes that took place in the society, its history and culture. The article shows that from Antiquity to the Renaissance the shaping of ideas about space is associated with the peculiarities of mythological thinking that predetermined the fusion of man with nature, the surrounding world. Consequently, the Renaissance man learned to oppose himself to nature and to perceive space from the outside, as a place that requires filling and a certain behavior, presented as a set of social roles. Since the New Era, space is perceived as linear, a vector, which is reflected in the enfilade room arrangement, whereas in the space of communication it was presented in the development of court ceremonial, requiring strictly regulated behavior. As a result of social changes, since the end of the 18th century and in the 19th century the boundaries between estates grew blurred. Space has also became endless, which gave birth to new forms of inner space organization, created new types of outer space and new forms of self-presentation. The author points out that the twentieth century is associated with the loss of the notion of space as a physical place, requiring direct presence of communication participants. He comes to the conclusion that in its perception of space humanity went from the space of places to the space of informational currents or space of relations, characterized by the lack of binding to the physical presence in a certain place.
