Abstract

The article explores dialect`s features of the village of Verkhnjaya Toyda of the Voronezh region. Its phonetic and morphological aspects are examined in detail. As a language source, the author draws on the speech of the long-liver of this settlement, which preserved the features of the dialect almost in its primordial state. The purpose of the study was to describe the distinctive modern features of the phonetics and morphology of the Upper-Toyda dialect. As a result of the analysis, it becomes evident that the local speech represents not only a very interesting linguistic phenomenon in itself, but also contains information allowing for better understanding of the dialectal worldview and development of the dialect as a constituent national language of the Russian people. Presented features give solid grounds to consider the Upper-Toydian dialect as original. It serves as a means of communication between the villagers among themselves and inhabitants of nearby settlements. The richness and uniqueness of popular speech is proven unquestionable, considering it contains those diverse features, absent in the literary language. As the research showed the typical features of the South-Russian dialect appear in the lexical units under study. As author concludes by getting acquainted and analyzing various units of speech, we can get a fairly clear idea of the modern features on two levels of the language of dialect: phonetics and morphology.
