Abstract |
The article considers the specifics of the festive decoration of Moscow during the 300th anniversary of the Romanov House, which came to be the last great anniversary of the pre-revolutionary era. It also traces changes in the style of the festive decoration of Russian cities caused by paradigm`s shift in art are noted — heaviness of historicism is replaced by the emphasized aestheticism of modernism, distinguished by poetics and rationalism in the interpretation of decorative motifs, attention to the functional organization of space, increased interest in the use of new materials. All this led to the revision of typological line of holiday decorations: thus soft fabric design took place of triumphal arches, obelisks, pyramids and pavilions. The article is to show features of the festive decoration of St. Petersburg and Moscow and register names of artists and architects who participated in the design of the two capitals. It determines the holiday`s culmination point — the program of the Imperial house travel to the cities of the Central Russia, where all the events dedicated to the reign of Mikhail Fedorovich — the first monarch of the Romanov family — took place. The author describes the festive decoration of Moscow, attested by contemporaries in the periodicals of that time and memoirs and, in conclusion, once again emphasizes the artistic specificity of the festive decoration for Royal celebrations in 1913. It allowed distinguishing stylistic, typological and constructive differences in the design of the 300th anniversary of the Romanovs from previous major celebrations, associated primarily with the development of modern style. |
