Abstract: |
The article compares the Byzantine and Old Russian musical notations and comes to the conclusion that they differ typologically despite the similarities of their graphic ele- ments. Therefore, theircomparativestudy ispossibleonlyon thelevelof graphicneumes, but is impossible on the level of their meanings. So the method that is usually used in modern Byzantine-Slavic musical comparative in order to read the earliest examples of Church Chant is incorrect, because it is based on a comparison of typologically different sign systems. |
